Around and About

The Blenheim has catered for ‘walkers’ for many years.  We often have one night stays from guests enjoying walking the coastal path.  These paths are obviously in abundance around here and for a growing number, walking the paths is a great way of spending a healthy holiday with wonderful cooked breakfasts every morning being a great bonus.  The Southwest Coastal Path Organisation can provide all up-to-date information. www.swcp.org.uk

For our walking guests a full luggage transfer service is offered by www.luggagetransfers.co.uk  We also recommend Alans taxis  www.alanstaxis.co.uk for all local and distance travel.

It is amazing what mileage is covered in a day.  Another growth industry is cycling…. we provide the perfect bike storage area here and so after a day cycling the incredible cycle paths the government has been installing, the bikes are safely stored whilst guests return for a warm shower!!    We have many specific cycling areas locally, for example Haldon Forest – a local picturesque area managed by the Forestry Commission and great value (IT’S FREE) providing cycle trails, walks and kids adventure areas www.forestry.gov.uk   Nowadays seaside holidays can and do provide absolutely everything for everyone!

Beautiful Devon noted for its picturesque landscape of soft rolling hills and tree shaded valleys offers numerous coastal resorts and fascinating villages for your enjoyment.

Close at hand is the Dartmoor National Park with varied landscape of wood covered valleys and wind swept tors together with its beautiful little villages such as North Bovey and Widecombe-in-the-Moor, world famous for its fair held every September which gave rise to the folk song ‘Widecombe Fair’ and characters Uncle Tom Cobley and All.

The English Riviera made up of its three seaside towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham form an almost continuous resort around the great sweep of sandy beaches and blue waters of Torbay.

Away from the seaside other attractions await the visitor such as Kents Cavern Show Caves, Babbington Model Village, the lovely little village of Cockington and Paignton Zoo.

For those liking the lively hustle and bustle of the City, Exeter with its historic Cathedral has great character as well as the big stores and smaller speciality shops.  Further afield similar delights are offered by Plymouth famous for its Hoe where it is said Sir Frances Drake calmly completed his game of bowls whilst the Spanish Armada made its way up the English Channel with its aim of invasion.

Closer to home is Newton Abbot boasting a history from Roman times and from the 1800’s becoming the Great Western Railways centre for carriage and locomotive repairs.

Trago Mills’s emporium not far away is another favourite venue for many of our visitors.

In addition to the long sandy beach of Dawlish there is a thriving little shopping centre meeting the majority of your requirements and the Sea Wall Walk with the Railway on one side and the rolling sea on the other to Dawlish Warren, where there is a nature reserve and bird sanctuary is a regular favourite.

Renowned  Devon Cream Teas are available throughout the area and for those seeking a more healthy and active pastime in addition to an invigorating swim in the sea,  Dawlish sports a well equipped Leisure Centre and there are several Golf courses within easy reach plus a couple of Pitch and Putt courses locally.

YOUR CHOICE IS ENDLESS..
